Yes, You've heard it from me. Congratulations!

You’re a mother and in your body miracles and miracles and miracles are taking place.

When I found out I was pregnant, I immediately began looking for midwives in my area as my health practitioner of choice. I had a couple encounters with doctors and nurses at the local hospital when I rushed over there after I spotted bleeding in the early weeks. I met an OB at her practice and chatted with receptionists in midwifery clinics.

Do you know what I was always listening for? Just for a congratulations. Just for someone to celebrate this momentous occasion with me. I was a first time mom and my world changed as soon as I found out a little one was relying on me.

Did I hear that one precious word from the health community? Hardly. I was a patient, who made them money at every visit. What did I need to be congratulated for? And I was choosing to go with midwives, no less. I actually chose the midwifery clinic based on how warm and inviting they were, and on how much support I received. They celebrated pregnancy with me and were open to all my questions.

I want you to know something, first trimester can be a crazy whirlwind. There are tons of questions, tons of feelings, tons of emotions. If things get hectic and you can’t seem to find secure ground, dig a foundation in this; you and your baby are being celebrated. No matter what you hear from anyone else, your Heavenly Father is overjoyed for you. He has wonderful things planned for you and your baby/babies. He is with you every step of the way, every trimester. You can rest in his joy and find strength in him.

So congrats! Eat some cake. Or fries, or macadamia nut cookies – whatever it is you’re craving.
